Batman Returns (Tim Burton, 1992)
A superhero flick with an auteur’s mark, Tim Burton’s Batman Returns represents a significant improvement compared to its predecessor. Production design, makeup and costumes contribute to grim yet campy tone. Movie is more interested in villains than Batman, which works thanks to hilarious performances from Danny DeVito and Michelle Pfeiffer. Story touches upon sexism, social alienation, corporate greed and corrupt politics.
